Ingredients

4
flavored or plain pita folds or pita (pocket) breads (about 6 inches in diameter)
16
thin pretzel sticks, halved
1/2
cup fat-free sour cream
1/2
cup guacamole
2
tablespoons finely chopped parsley
1/4
teaspoon garlic-pepper blend
1/4
cup very finely chopped red bell pepper

Directions

  • 1 Cut each pita fold into 8 wedges. Insert pretzel stick half into center of bottom of each wedge to form "tree trunk."
  • 2 In small bowl, mix sour cream, guacamole, parsley and garlic-pepper blend. Spread about 1 teaspoon sour cream mixture on each pita wedge.
  • 3 Blot bell pepper with paper towel to remove excess moisture. Sprinkle about 1/4 teaspoon bell pepper on each wedge or arrange to form a garland. If desired, cover and refrigerate up to 8 hours before serving.

Expert Tips

For variety, use cilantro in place of the parsley.

If you have time, make your own guacamole. Simply mash a ripe avocado and throw in a dash of salt, lime juice and chopped garlic.

Just for my own tastes I wish I would have skipped adding the sour cream and garlic-pepper blend. This is a really fun and festive appetizer. Make sure you get the skinniest pretzel sticks you can find.

These were great! Instead of the guacamole spread I used roasted red pepper hummus topped with real red bell pepper and cut the pita bread with a turkey shaped cookie cutter to make it thanksgiving themed and my family loved them! They tasted as good as they looked and are extremly easy to make. Just a word of caution though, if let in the fridge the pretzel stem becomes a little soggy, but it doesnt effect the taste at all and i will definently make these again!

this was such a good idea! i didnt use the guacamole but instead for my class today i made the pita breads thanksgiving themed and used a turkey shaped cookie cutter then i topped the pita with roasted red pepper hummus and then fresh roasted real red bell peppers on top of that. They were delicious! just one word of warning though, if kept in the fridge overnight the pretzel stem becomes a little soggy, it still tastes fine and it didnt bother me but just a word of caution :) thanks for this idea!
