Ingredients

1
lb lean ground turkey
2
tablespoons Italian-style dry bread crumbs
1/3
cup barbecue sauce
1
large sweet or yellow onion
4
whole wheat burger buns or kaiser rolls, split, lightly toasted if desired

Directions

  • 1 Set oven control to broil. In medium bowl, mix ground turkey, bread crumbs and half of the barbecue sauce. Shape mixture into 4 patties, 1/2 inch thick. Place patties on rack in broiler pan.
  • 2 Broil 4 to 6 inches from heat 10 to 12 minutes, turning once, until no longer pink and thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 165°F.
  • 3 Meanwhile, halve onion lengthwise; cut crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Separate into half-rings.
  • 4 Heat 10-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion; cook 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Reduce heat to medium; cover and cook 2 minutes. Stir in remaining barbecue sauce. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook 5 minutes longer or until onion is wilted and sauce thickens.
  • 5 Place patties on bottom halves of buns. Top with onion mixture. Cover with top halves of buns. If desired, serve with additional barbecue sauce.

This was my first time making turkey burgers. And I was glad this was the one I tried.I cooked them on the grill. They came nice. And the onion topping made them even better.I cooked the garlic oven fries I found on this site to go with the burgers. They went well together. Will be making again.

This was enjoyable and the hubby liked it. Toasting the bun is highly recommended! I also made an okra, tomato & corn medley to go along with the burgers!
