Ingredients

box (1 lb) white angel food cake mix
Water called for on cake mix box
1/2
cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
Chocolate-flavor syrup, if desired
Fresh berries, if desired

Directions

  • 1 Move oven rack to lowest position (remove other racks). Heat oven to 350°F. Make cake mix as directed on box--except gently stir chocolate chips into batter. Bake, cool and remove from pan as directed.
  • 2 To serve, cut into 12 slices. Drizzle each slice with chocolate syrup; top with berries.

Ok... the scoop on the chips... I agree with Karazona about making sure to coat the chips in flour. I agree with shelleyjAZ to not mix them in with the batter... save just a little of the batter to cover chips after laying them on top of most of the batter after it is already in the pan. Next time I will get the chips slightly moist before coating them with the powder, so they get a better coating. Practice makes perfect... I will make this again!

To prevent the chips from sinking, toss them in some flour just to coat them before mixing in the batter. Try this recipe again...it really works! :)

I somewhat solved the issue of the chips sinking and burning while baking...I sprinkled them on just before I put the cake into the oven..some did reach the bottom, but most stayed up...and none burned...I used a glass loaf pan...and baked at 325 degrees using my convection oven for 40 minutes....very tasty....
